RAISE

Young Refugees’ AI Student Empowerment Program – RAISE

Description

The Young Refugee AI Student Empowerment (RAISE) program aims to support young migrants and refugees new to the European Union (EU) to integrate better into the labour market by developing an AI assessment and coaching tool.
To develop and test this new AI tool we engaged individuals to take the e-VELP course to become Volunteer Educators (VEs) and additional individuals support the VEs as mentors (Volunteer Educator Trainers). The course has a duration of estimated 45 hours, with a shorter version also available.

The main goal of the program is to support VEs to host their own workshops through an organisation and help them prepare for their entrance into the local labour market.

Objectives

The primary objective of the project is to support the integration of young migrants and refugees into the labour market by adopting an interactive, integrated, individualised three-pronged approach which comprises:

  1. AI skill assessment,
  2. a customised course plan,
  3. practical guidance and support for offering workshops in the local communities. This will enable them to gain new skills via a learning plan tailored to their needs, to iteratively re-assess their skills, build a network, and start a potential career as educators/trainers. In following the outlined three-pronged approach, our project is aligned with and contributing to the EU’s goals for building more integrated and inclusive societies (EU Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion, 2021-2027).

The second objective of the project on a system level is to provide assistance to youth workers by leveraging state-of-the-art AI technology in the form of a scalable, extensible, and reusable framework. The modular architecture of the framework, together with the underlying expert data decision models, aim to enable youth workers and other educational programmes to easily adapt the framework for their own use cases, enabling them to provide smart assessment/personalised coaching while saving valuable time and resources. This is in line with the need for targeted training for youth workers.
