TRAST

TRAST- Transmedia Stories of Insularity

Description

TRAST is a participation-oriented project that creates opportunities through accessible, targeted cultural and heritage activities, using performative and transmedia methodologies to rethink insularity as a condition of social and creative isolation rather than a geographic state. By combining digital culture, new communication technologies, and transmedia storytelling, the project addresses inequality, discrimination, and socio-cultural exclusion affecting insular communities, including migrants and refugees. TRAST promotes collaboration through open data, open archives, resource sharing, and participatory practices, while gradually building an integrated digital and physical infrastructure for cultural collaboration and innovation. Its methodology blends theoretical research with practice-based experimentation, producing participatory transmedia works presented online and offline, integrating video, performance, visual and sound storytelling, cultural artefacts, and personal and collective memories.

Objectives

  • Build an inclusive and interconnected European community of cultural players and stakeholders.
  • Foster social inclusion of insular groups by removing participation barriers and improving access, voice, and rights.
  • Promote participatory, bottom-up approaches that support personal empowerment, identity, agency, and democratisation.
  • Address inequality, discrimination, deprivation, and socio-cultural exclusion through cultural innovation.
  • Strengthen engagement between insular and dominant communities to create a shared sense of belonging.
  • Co-design and disseminate a transferable model of social and cultural innovation across Europe.
  • Challenge dominant narratives on insularity through participatory and transmedia storytelling practices.
  • Develop new artistic and transmedia storytelling models that support identity expression and self-reflection.
  • Integrate first-person, second-person, and third-person perspectives to reflect pluralism and lived experience.
  • Support inclusive cultural policies by situating social issues within their historical, social, and cultural contexts.
