EmpowerAId

EmpowerAId – Empowering pre- and in-service teachers to harness the potential of AI for designing creative and ethical digital education ecosystems

Description

EmpowerAId is a three-year Erasmus+ Teacher Academies project, a partnership of 10 core partners from eight EU countries (Lithuania, Greece, Finland, Spain, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus, and Romania), including universities, ministries, training schools, civil society organisations, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The project addresses a critical need across Europe: the rapid integration of AI technologies in education requires teacher trainers and educators to be equipped not only with digital competences but also with ethical reasoning, AI literacy, and the capacity to apply creative, human-centered pedagogical approaches. EmpowerAId aims to build an innovative and sustainable network of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) providers, and to co-design interdisciplinary training programmes and mobility schemes tailored to pre- and in-service teachers.

Objectives

In-depth evidence-based research conduction into the current state of integrating AI in Education (AIED) within the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes
Establishment of the EmpowerAId Interactive Knowledge Hub (IKH) of teacher trainers, student teachers, in-service teachers, and policymakers to promote networking, knowledge-sharing, and synergies creation
Development of a comprehensive and participatory “Train the Trainer” (TTT) programme for building teacher trainers’ capacity to effectively design and deliver teacher training programmes on integrating AI in Education.
Joint interdisciplinary, innovative and creative-based AI training courses development for ITE and CPD to pave the way for integrating AI training in teacher education across Europe.
Innovative and interdisciplinary mobility schemes development to foster the European dimension of the produced ITE and CPD programmes
EmpowerAId Academy’s teacher training courses and mobility schemes testing and validation to showcase their contribution to foster the integration of AI training programmes in teacher education across Europe
Network of EU Alliances set-up for upscaling the internalization and policy outreach of the ITE and CPD programmes, and develop evidence-based policy recommendations for informing EU and national policy makers to transfer the innovative, interdisciplinary and blended EmpowerAId training programmes in teacher education (ITE and CPD)
Appropriate tools, motivation, and measures development to foster EmpowerAId Academy’s dissemination, transferability and long-term sustainability.
