BEST

BEST_Building environmental awareness and sustainability valuesthrough the Head, Heart, Hands Model for TransformativeLearning.

Description

The world is home to 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 to 24 — the largest generation of youth in history (United Nations, 2022). 2022 has been dedicated European Year of Youth, however, unfortunately, many young people are often left out of major decisions that have a direct result on their lives, with many being unable to participate in democratic life until the age of 18, and many facing a myriad of barriers due to their remote location across Europe. Fridays for Future, Youth for Climate, Zero Hour, are all examples of youth-led and youth-organised climate movements which have supported young people across the world to unite in their fight against the harmful effects of climate change. The BEST project aims to actively engage with young people to empower them to tackle climate change collectively and holistically, gaining support from their European counterparts.
BEST will empower young people to become involved in the development and advancement of their local, national and global communities. Young people and their youth workers will be included in activities that directly impact upon their lives, through examining their conceptions and preconceived ideas in relation to climate change and sustainability, and the impact that this has on their lives, and on the lives of those around them.

Objectives

The overall objective of the BEST project is to supporting young people and youth workers to gain a deeper understanding of the Head, Heart, Hands model for Transformative Education so that they can take action on climate change in their local areas. This project will support the horizontal priority: Environment – fight against climate change.
